Your questions answered
How can I upgrade my business energy meter to a Smart Meter?
Go to our Smart Meter page to register your interest and we will be in touch to book your install.
What type of Smart Meter can I have?
If you use more than 100,000 kWh electricity, or more than 293,000 kWh gas a year and you’re a non-micro business you can choose between an Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) Smart Meter and a SMETS2 Smart Meter. Both meters are very similar and offer similar benefits. Get in touch with us and we can discuss which meter would best suit your needs.
Where will my Smart Meter be fitted?
In most cases, we will install your meter where you current traditional meter is located. If this changes, we will let you know before the install is completed.
How secure is my data?
When Smart Meters need to communicate with a supplier, they use the Wide Area Network. This is a secure network that is supported by the Data Communications Company (DCC) which is overseen by the energy regulator, Ofgem. The DCC are governed by very strict regulations to ensure that all Smart Meter data is kept private and secure.
My Meter isn’t working in smart mode?
We aim to have all of our Smart Meters working in smart mode by the end of 2021. SMETS 1 meters were only designed to work with the installing supplier, but we are developing a strategy to enroll all SMETS 1 meters into the Data Communications Company (DCC) so that they too can become smart.
What are the benefits of a Smart Meter?
- Eliminates manual reads – you don’t need to enter manual readings anymore, your Smart Meter will send these to us automatically!
- Accurate usage figures to help you save energy – You’ll get an intelligent breakdown of what you are using and exactly how much it’s costing you so that you can work out where to save energy!
- Eliminates estimated bills – as the readings are taken automatically, we know how much you are using and can send you an accurate bill based on your actual usage.
How long will my Smart Meter take to install?
It usually takes around 90 minutes to complete a Dual Fuel installation and 60 minutes for a single fuel. This time can vary depending on the condition of your current meters and any on-site issues so please set aside a little extra time just in case.
