Our green tariffs

We've got some great value renewable energy options

Green Electricity

Our 100% renewable electricity tariffs are backed by renewable certificates called Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin certificates (REGOs).

The REGOs scheme is managed by the energy regulator Ofgem. A REGO is provided with every megawatt hour (MWh) of renewable energy produced in the UK. When you buy a renewable tariff with us, we match the amount of energy you use for the year and buy this in REGOs. This ensures your money goes towards funding renewable generation projects nationally.

The more customers choosing our green tariffs, the more REGOs we will purchase and over time this will alter our fuel mix. Our fuel mix for the previous financial year April 2019 to March 2020 is located here.

As our green tariffs have only recently been introduced, we cannot yet report which renewable sources are being used. This information will be produced around Aug/Sept 2021.

Carbon Offset Gas

Alongside providing 100% green electricity tariffs we know it’s also important to reduce carbon emissions as much as possible. To be able to offset the carbon emissions of our customers we support global projects including one in Uruguay which you can learn more about below.

The projects we invest in are in the Verified Carbon Standard program (VCS) which is the most widely used voluntary program for reducing emissions. You can find out more about that here.

We know carbon off-setting isn’t a final solution to tackling climate change but it’s one of the best options currently available for everyone at a low cost. In the future we will be looking at sourcing green gas directly from producers and providing customers with alternatives when heating the home such as heat pumps.

The Uruguay CEIBO Project

The project that we’re supporting in Uruguay is spread over 22,000 hectares of land (over 41,000 football fields worth) and aims to convert degraded grassland into forest plantations. The project is certified by the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) which is an internationally renowned program setting the gold standard for responsible forest management. Alongside having a positive environmental impact the project also benefits local communities by providing sustainable development and a better quality of life.
